In many ways, HIV/AIDS education plays a vital role in its management. One of the most important things it does is make people realise that everyone should know their status.
Education is therefore a key component of our core service offering and is strongly recommended as a minimum HIV/AIDS intervention.

HIV/AIDS Awareness Workshop
The aim of the HIV/AIDS Awareness Programme is to empower and increase the awareness to participants of HIV/AIDS, its impact, management and availability of support systems. This is to encourage early testing and lifestyle changes that will thereby reduce and prevent further infection.

Peer Educators training programme
The aim of the programme is to up-skill peer educators as sources of information, carers and a support system. Peer educators are the key personnel in any effective strategy in terms of the communication of HIV/AIDS programme decisions made by an organization.
The term 'peer' refers to someone of equal standing with another; one belongs to the same societal group especially based on age, grade or status. The term 'educator' refers to the development, training or persuasion of a given person or thing or the knowledge resulting from the educational process. In practice a peer educator programme has taken on a range of definitions and interpretations of who a peer and what is education (facilitation, discussion, drama, lecturing, making referrals to services, advocacy, distributing materials, providing support etc.)
The Peer Educator Programme content is:

Duration: The duration of this training course is 5 full days
HIV/AIDS Management, Supervisor and Union training programme (Line Managers Training)
The aim of the programme is to help participants develop insight into issues of HIV/AIDS management in the workplace and assist in the creation of a safe working environment which is free from discrimination and stigma.
The contents of the course include:
- Introduction

- Legislation
- The management of employees with HIV/AIDS

Duration: one full day`
ARV Literacy Programme
The aim of this programme is to provide a clear understanding of HIV/AIDS, treatment and the related issues of monitoring, adherence and resistance. Those attending this course will have already attended basic HIV/AIDS training as this course is not aimed at those without any knowledge of the disease. Peer Educators, Counsellors, Nurses, Pharmacists and Human Resources managers would benefit from attending this course.
The programme content is:
- Natural history of HIV infection
- Diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression
- Management of early HIV infection prior to ART, including prophylaxis of opportunistic infections and use of micro-nutrients and "immune boosters"
- How ARV work
- Classification of ARV
- Getting started and sequencing of therapy
- Adverse effects of ARV and drug interactions
Duration: 1 full day
The ARV Literacy training courses is none accredited.
HIV/AIDS Awareness presentation
The proposed contents of the presentation are to include the following:
- Introduction to HIV/AIDS
- HIV and the immune system
- How HIV spreads & prevention
- Symptoms of HIV infection
- Testing for HIV
- HIV medicines
Duration: 2 hours
The content of HIV/AIDS awareness presentations can be discussed and aimed at specific target groups.
Wellness Champion Training
Wellness Champions are a relatively new concept and many organisations are now moving beyond having just HIV peer educators and training 'wellness champions', as South Africa and the surrounding region are vulnerable to issues that negatively impact on employee well being, primarily amongst these is HIV/AIDS and other chronic diseases, as well as poverty, poor nutrition and the stress associated with high levels of crime. The uniqueness of this scenario requires a distinct solution which goes beyond the HIV peer educators of the past years to pro-actively promote, support and enable employee wellbeing at all levels.
The Wellness Champions training is intended for people interested in educating their peers on issues relating to wellness. These can be workers in any type of industry, who are interested in educating their peers on this subject in the workplace.
The content of this training include:
- Introduction, expectations, ground rules and course objectives
- The role of a wellness champion
- Basic counselling skills
- Health risk assessment including screening for chronic diseases such as HIV, hypertension, diabetes and cholesterol,
- Nutrition
- Substance and alcohol abuse in the workplace
- Depression, stress and anxiety
- Exercise
- HIV/AIDS
- Aid for AIDS (if applicable)
- Confidentiality and how to make a referral
- Action plan formulation (including group identification and needs analysis)
- Action plan presentation to group
- Learnings and closure
Duration: 3 full days
